Precious Protozoa!
What do Protozoa look like? And what varieties are there?
Protozoa vary in size growing up to 1/50 of an inch in diameter. They are often described as worm like creatures, they generally are grouped into three different shapes;
1- round, with small spikes surrounding the cell
2- round with a small tail at the rear of the cell
3- in a 'c' shape but Protozoa also come in many other different shapes and sizes. There are four main subgroups of Protozoa which are called; the ciliates, the sarcodina, the flagellates and the apicomplexans, all protozoa cells contain a nuclear that acts like the cell's brain and tells it what to do.

Is a Protozoa multicellular, unicellular or non-cellular?
Protozoa is a single cell organism so it is grouped into the unicellular category.
Where is Protozoa found?
Protozoa can be found in almost every soil environment including swamps, marshes, and dry desert sands. They hide in the deep seas as well as the surface of waters including the freezing cold arctic and even the Antarctic!

How do Protozoa take in nutrients?
Protozoa feed mainly on bacteria but also eat other Protozoa, they even sometimes eat fungi. Some Protozoa use their cell membranes to absorb the nutrients from what they eat and others use openings called moth pores to suck up the food and digest it using stomach like sacks.
How do protozoa reproduce?
The most common way of reproduction in Protozoa is asexually; this occur when the cell divides in half, creating a new cell.

Is Protozoa used in food production, medicine or other applications?
Protozoa is not used in food reduction or medicine, it is defined as only a cell that assists in the decomposition of waste.
What diseases are caused by Protozoa?
Protozoa have often been associated with cysts, (painful lump on or under the skin) they are also largely responsible for Malaria, Sleeping Sickness and Chagas Disease.
